This is a short story told from the daughters point of view in a future world were pollution has killed off pretty much everything but the plankton, and that is being harvested to extinction. Father and daughter are basically genetic engineers who were trying to bring life back to a world that had ceased to care about the future. The Daughter is dying while she records this memory of why her father helped the sirens, and got executed for it. This is a well written complete short story.Product details

For a short story it was great. A little sci fi but a great lesson we should all learn from this may be in our real future if we are not careful.
A rather interesting look at the mermaid tale as well environmental issues. Starts off slow but does pick up. I have to see if Farland writes any more in this world.
This is an interesting story and felt like it had real potential and then it just...stopped. Was it a short story? Was it merely an excerpt? I'm not sure. But what I did read left me wondering.
